World Cup 2026 — 25 June Results Recap

Matchday 3 wrap · Groups D, E and F decided · Six matches, two co-host storylines · Recap for Canadian readers

The middle slate of decisive Matchday 3 fixtures closed out Groups D, E and F on 25 June 2026 — and produced one of the tournament’s better twists: the United States lost their final group game yet still topped Group D, while Germany were a Sané goal and not much else away from going out before recovering their footing in the qualification math. For Canadian readers tracking the co-host picture, the North American note of the night is that all three host nations are now through to the Round of 32.

A scoreboard montage of the 25 June 2026 World Cup Matchday 3 results
The 25 June matchday settled three more groups and reshaped the top of the knockout bracket.
USA lost 3–2 to Turkey but still won Group D; Australia edged Paraguay for second on goal difference. Germany and Ivory Coast both advanced from Group E despite Germany’s 2–1 loss to Ecuador. Netherlands won Group F, Japan joined them, and Tunisia went out without a point.

Group D — Turkey 3–2 United States (USA still top)

Turkey signed off with a win that did not save them. Arda Güler opened on 10 minutes and Yılmaz made it 2–1 on the half-hour after Trusty had put the USA ahead inside three minutes; Berhalter levelled at 2–2 early in the second half before Ayhan struck deep into stoppage time (90+8′) to win it for Turkey. The result eliminated Turkey and, crucially, left the United States on top of the group regardless. (Source: Wikipedia Group D, corroborated by Yahoo/Bolavip, 25 June 2026.)

In the other Group D fixture, Paraguay 0–0 Australia sent the Socceroos through in second place on goal difference over Paraguay — both finished on four points, but Australia’s level goal difference edged Paraguay’s −2.

Co-host angle for Canadian readers: the USA become the second host nation to clinch a group win at their own World Cup this week, after Mexico topped Group A. With Canada also through from Group B, all three 2026 co-hosts have reached the Round of 32 — the first time the tournament’s hosts have collectively advanced since the competition expanded.

Group E — Ecuador 2–1 Germany (both still go through)

The night’s headline scare came in Group E. Leroy Sané put Germany ahead inside two minutes, but Ecuador answered through Angulo (9′) and Plata (77′) to win 2–1. Germany still advanced — they top the group on goal difference (+6) ahead of Ivory Coast (+2), who beat Curaçao 2–0 with a Nicolas Pépé brace (7′, 64′). Ecuador finish third on four points; Curaçao are out.

Group F — Netherlands 3–1 Tunisia, Japan hold Sweden

The Netherlands sealed top spot in Group F with a 3–1 win over Tunisia — an early Skhiri own goal (3′), Brobbey (7′) and Van Hecke (62′) doing the damage, with Mastouri replying for Tunisia (54′). Japan 1–1 Sweden (Maeda 56′; Elanga 62′) was enough to carry Japan into second place. Tunisia leave the tournament bottom of the group with no points and a −10 goal difference.

Who is through, who is out

The 25 June results locked three more groups. Confirmed into the Round of 32 from these groups: United States and Australia (D), Germany and Ivory Coast (E), Netherlands and Japan (F). Eliminated on the night: Turkey, Curaçao and Tunisia. That leaves only Groups G, H and I (26 June) and J, K and L (27 June) to finish before the full Round of 32 bracket is set.

The Round of 32 pairings cannot be set until every group is complete on 27 June. Early matchups being reported — including a provisional Canada vs South Africa opener — are not yet official until the best third-placed teams are fixed. We will only publish a fixture once it is locked.
